معرفی
Jeffrey S. Ovall is the Maseeh Professor of Mathematics in the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Portland State University. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego in 2004. Following his doctorate, he held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (Leipzig, Germany) and the California Institute of Technology, and a faculty position at the University of Kentucky before joining Portland State University in 2013.
His research focuses on numerical analysis and scientific computing with specialization in:
- Operator eigenvalue problems and spectral methods
- Exotic discretization schemes for PDEs and integral equations
- A posteriori error estimation techniques
- Treatment of singular solutions in computational mathematics
- Finite element methods on complex geometries
His publication record demonstrates consistent focus on eigenproblems, adaptive methods, and finite element techniques, with recent work exploring eigenvector localization, magnetic operators, and quadrature methods for complex domains. His research spans mathematical foundations through computational implementation.
Dr. Ovall has received recognition through his appointment to the endowed Maseeh Professorship at Portland State University.
