Jeffrey Pierce is a Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University (CSU), affiliated with the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. He holds the Monfort Professorship and previously served as Monfort Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. His career includes roles at Dalhousie University and a NASA Postdoctoral Fellowship. Pierce specializes in atmospheric aerosols, aerosol-cloud interactions, and climate effects, with a focus on air pollution, health impacts, and wildfire smoke. He leads the Pierce Research Group, mentoring over 30 students and postdocs. His work is funded by NSF, NASA, NOAA, and others.
- Education: Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, 2008), B.S. (Chemical Engineering, Northeastern University, 2003)
- Research Interests: Aerosol microphysics, climate effects, health impacts, and new particle formation.
Notable awards include the George T. Abell Mid-Career Faculty Award (2017) and Langstroth Teaching Excellence Award (2012). His research spans global climate modeling, wildfire smoke exposure, and agricultural emissions, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
Key collaborations include the Canadian Network on Climate and Aerosols (NETCARE) and the Atmospheric Tomography Mission (ATom). Current projects investigate wildfire smoke health risks, aerosol radiative effects, and low-cost air quality sensors.
