Jeffrey Pickering is a Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Graduate Program in Security Studies at Kansas State University's College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana University and has been recognized nationally and internationally for his scholarly achievements, including co-authoring African Interventions: State Militaries, Foreign Powers, and Rebel Forces, which won the J. David Singer Book Award in 2023.

His research examines global military intervention patterns, the relationship between intervention and government stability, the use of pro-government militias, and civil-military relations' impact on domestic and international conflict. He has served as co-editor-in-chief of the International Studies Association's (ISA) flagship journal International Studies Quarterly and previously held editorial roles at International Interactions and Foreign Policy Analysis.

He continues to explore how civil-military dynamics shape foreign policy and domestic violence, contributing to both academic discourse and practical military education through courses for K-State students and U.S. Army officers.
