Jeffrey N. Peters is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Kentucky. His research focuses on early modern French literature, particularly the intersection of poetics and knowledge systems in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He holds affiliations with French & Francophone Studies, International Film Studies, and Social Theory programs.
Education: PhD from the University of Michigan.
Research interests include literary theory, posthumanism, and film studies. Recent work explores concepts like 'humoralism' in early modern textuality and the role of clouds in aesthetic representation. His book Mapping Discord won the 2005 Scaglione Prize. Current projects examine materiality in literature and the 'poetics of meteorology.'
His publications span peer-reviewed articles on Descartes, Montaigne, Molière, and La Fontaine, reflecting engagement with interdisciplinary themes. Courses taught include French cinema, film theory, and seventeenth-century critical theory.
