Jeffrey Lofthus, Ph.D., is a Professor of Education at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) in Juneau, serving as Coordinator of the Distance Bachelor of Arts Elementary Education Program. He teaches classes and supervises student teachers, with prior roles including elementary principal (8 years in Nebraska) and administrator. He actively supports the Preparing Indigenous Teachers and Administrators for Alaska's Schools (PITAAS) program, focusing on Alaska Native student recruitment and mentorship. He previously taught in the Educational Leadership Program at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and worked on an NSF grant with the Arctic Research Faculty at UAF.
- Education: Ph.D. in Educational Leadership (Principal/Superintendent), M.A. in Counseling, and B.S. in Secondary Education (Social Science/English) from the University of North Dakota.
Research interests include educational equity, teacher development, and leadership in diverse and Indigenous contexts. He serves as Executive Director of Alaska ASCD and remains committed to advancing educational opportunities in Alaska. His work bridges practical experience with academic rigor, advocating for inclusive and culturally responsive education systems.
