Jeffrey J Martin is a Full Professor in the College of Education at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI) with 32 years of service. He holds a Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His research focuses on psychosocial aspects of disability sport, physical activity adherence, body image, and self-efficacy in athletes. He has secured over $8 million in federal/foundation grants and published >250 articles.
Dr. Martin specializes in disability sport psychology, examining how social support, identity, and motivational climates influence athletic performance and well-being. He integrates Social Cognitive Theory and Self-Determination Theory to develop interventions promoting physical activity in underserved populations.
His recent articles (2021-2025) emphasize methodological rigor in adapted physical activity research, online psychological training for para-athletes, and critical analyses of sport psychology's theoretical foundations.
