Jeffrey Hatley is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Union College's College of Arts and Sciences. His research specializes in number theory with focus areas in Iwasawa theory, elliptic curves, Galois representations, and arithmetic statistics. Dr. Hatley has received multiple NSF grants and the AMS-Simons Research Enhancement Award.
His investigations explore the behavior of Mordell-Weil ranks in extensions, anticyclotomic Iwasawa invariants, and the statistical properties of Selmer groups. Recent work addresses Watkins's conjecture and Mazur's predictions about rank growth in Z_p-extensions.
Professor Hatley teaches courses across the mathematics curriculum including Number Theory, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Mathematical Cryptology. He actively mentors undergraduate researchers and has supervised twelve senior theses on topics ranging from elliptic curve cryptography to algebraic number theory. His pedagogical approach emphasizes research engagement through programs like the Upstate New York Number Theory Conference.
