Jeffrey G. Purvis is a Professor of Law at San Joaquin College of Law, holding the James K. and Carol Sellars Herbert Professorship in Constitutional Law since 1993. He teaches courses including Constitutional Law I/II, Business Organizations, and Legal Process. His academic career includes roles as Faculty Chair and Chair of the Faculty Committee since 2007.
Education: J.D. and B.A. from the University of California, Davis. Prior to SJCL, he served as a research attorney for California courts and edited the BarPassers bar review course (1985–1990).
Research focuses on constitutional law, human rights, media law, and corporate social responsibility. Notable publications address supply chain transparency, domestic violence restraining orders, and online journalism protections. He frequently presents on constitutional issues, including recent debates over gun control, healthcare reform, and free speech.
Recipient of the Herbert Professorship. Active in community legal education via the radio program Valley Views on the Law, co-hosted with Justin Atkinson, addressing topics like immigration, civil rights, and ethical dilemmas.
