Jeffrey Easton is Assistant Professor of Classics at Southwestern University, specializing in Roman social history, Latin language and literature, Latin epigraphy, and material culture of the ancient world. He holds a PhD in Classics from the University of Toronto and has previously taught at the University of Toronto and Washington and Lee University.
His research examines social mobility among subaltern Romans, particularly enslaved people and freedmen, using epigraphic and archaeological evidence. Recent publications analyze Roman municipal administration and intergenerational mobility patterns.
Easton has presented his research at numerous conferences including the Society for Classical Studies Annual Meeting and North American Congress of Greek and Latin Epigraphy. He has conducted research at the American Academy in Rome and participated in excavations at Pompeii.
