Jeffrey D. Himpele is Director of the Ethnographic Data Visualization Lab (VizE Lab) and Lecturer in Anthropology at Princeton University. He holds a PhD from Princeton and AB from the University of Chicago. His interdisciplinary research bridges visual anthropology, media studies, and data visualization, with regional expertise in Bolivia and the Andes.
Research explores indigenous media production, capitalism as cultural performance, and the visualization of anthropological knowledge. Award-winning films include Incidents of Travel in Chichen Itza and The Torture Letters. Teaching emphasizes digital tools for ethnographic representation, including courses on Ethnographic Data Visualization and Visible/Invisible Worlds.
