Jeffrey D. Corbin is the Florence B. Sherwood Professor of Life Sciences and Professor of Biological Sciences at Union College, NY. He is a plant ecologist investigating the intersection of community and ecosystem ecology, with a focus on invasive species, land use change, and soil dynamics in conservation and habitat restoration. His research integrates field experiments, big data analysis, and natural history to address biodiversity preservation.
- Education: B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz; Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley.
His research explores ecosystem restoration strategies, invasive species legacies, and the ecology of pine barren ecosystems. Recent studies analyze historical housing discrimination’s impact on urban forests, functional trait shifts in plant communities, and climate education frameworks.
He teaches courses such as Heredity, Evolution and Ecology (BIO 103), Plant Ecology (BIO 324), and Advanced Topics in Ecology (BIO 329). His students include E.M. Beaury, A. Malatesta, and L. Petri, among others.
