Dr. Jeffrey Chen is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on tuberculosis (TB) pathogenesis, vaccine development, and mycobacterial virulence factors. He holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Marine Biology and Biochemistry from Dalhousie University and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from the University of Toronto. His postdoctoral training at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland furthered his expertise in global health and microbiology.
Research Interests: Mycobacterial virulence mechanisms, TB host-pathogen interactions, anti-TB vaccine development, and animal models of TB. Current projects include studying the ESX-1 secretion system, improving BCG vaccines, and developing porcine TB models funded by NSERC, Banting Research Foundation, and Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation.
Publications highlight contributions to drug discovery, bacterial genetics, and immunology. His work addresses critical gaps in TB treatment and prevention, especially in livestock and human populations.
