Jeffrey Carney is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Florida, directing the Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER) and Florida Resilient Cities (FRC). His work focuses on climate change adaptation, community resilience, and transdisciplinary design processes. He holds degrees from Washington University in St. Louis (B.Arch) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.Arch and M.C.R.P.).
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Architecture, Washington University
- Master’s in Architecture and City/Regional Planning, UC Berkeley
Research interests include post-disaster housing design, coastal sustainability, and community-engaged resilience strategies. Notable projects include HUD-funded modular housing for disaster recovery and the Port St. Joe recovery effort after Hurricane Michael. His work has been showcased at the Venice Biennale and widely published.

Grants/Advising: Led projects funded by HUD, the Jessie Ball DuPont Foundation, and the Gulf Research Program. Advised the Louisiana Resiliency Assistance Program (LRAP) and co-directed the award-winning “The Giving Delta” project.
Labs/Teams: Directs FIBER and FRC, collaborating on initiatives like the LSU Coastal Sustainability Studio and the “Inland from the Coast” project.
