Alka Sapat is a Professor and Director of the School of Public Administration at Florida Atlantic University. Her expertise spans disaster management, public policy processes, vulnerability assessments, and interdisciplinary methodology. She leads research initiatives funded by NSF and DHS, focusing on disaster-induced population displacement, critical infrastructure resilience, and post-disaster housing recovery. Dr. Sapat has authored/co-authored influential books including Displaced by Disasters: Recovery and Resilience in a Globalizing World (2014) and Coming Home after Disaster (2017).
Her current NSF-funded research examines subjective resilience and policy evolution in hurricane-prone counties, while the Abacoa Foundation-supported project investigates disaster readiness for older adults in Southeast Florida. She actively contributes to policy through roles on the Florida State Disaster Housing Task Force and Governor's Hurricane Conference committee.
