Jeffrey C. Brown serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music – Percussion at Valparaiso University, where he has taught percussion and drum set since his appointment. He also contributes to the Valparaiso University Partners for Music program. Brown holds a Master of Music from Valparaiso University, with postgraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music. His musical training includes studies under notable percussionists like Roy C. Knapp and instructors such as Bob Tilles and David Baker.

Research/Performance Interests: Brown specializes in percussion, jazz studies, and music education. He is known for his work with drum set and orchestral percussion, as well as his pedagogical approaches to music instruction. His initiatives, such as the award-winning “Brown’s Music Bus” program, focus on bringing contemporary American music to K–12 students across Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.
Notable Projects:
- Cofounder of the Valparaiso University Faculty Jazz Trio (est. 1979), which has collaborated with renowned artists like James Moody and Art Farmer.
- Released two CDs: For the Moment (1999) and Journey (2010), featuring original compositions and collaborations with jazz luminaries.
Grants & Recognition: Brown has secured grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Indiana Arts Commission. He has also served on the Indiana Arts Commission Advisory Panel.
Teaching & Mentorship: He has instructed at New Trier High School, Triton College, and Thornton Community College, and mentored students including percussionists Nathan Ortiz (University of Iowa) and Elijah Casillas (Indiana University).
