Jeffrey B. Peterson is a Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Physics within the Mellon College of Science. His expertise lies in astrophysics and cosmology, focusing on designing novel radio telescopes to study dark energy, fast radio bursts, and the early universe. He holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and has been affiliated with CMU since 1993, serving as Professor since 2003. His research involves collaborations at globally significant sites like Isla Guadalupe, Marion Island, Xinjiang, and the South Pole, where instruments like ACBAR contributed to measuring the universe's total mass.
- Education: Ph.D., UC Berkeley
Research interests include constructing telescopes with cylindrical reflectors and satellite arrays to explore cosmic phenomena. Recent publications emphasize radio instrument design, pulsar timing, and FRB detection. His team's work spans observational cosmology, instrument engineering, and early-universe studies. Peterson leads a dedicated group advancing radio astronomy techniques for probing fundamental cosmic mysteries.
