Jeffrey Allen Tucker is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Rochester's School of Arts & Sciences, where he also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies. He specializes in African-American literature, science fiction, postmodernism, and cultural identity, with particular expertise in works by Samuel R. Delany, Octavia Butler, and John A. Williams.
His research examines:
- Race and representation in speculative fiction
- Postmodern narrative strategies in African-American literature
- Cultural identity in comics and paraliterary forms
- Intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in literature
Professor Tucker has directed numerous dissertations on topics ranging from African-American postmodernism to race in popular culture. His teaching has been recognized with the University's Goergen and Curtis awards for excellence. Recent publications include 'Conversations with John A. Williams' (University Press of Mississippi, 2018), and he is currently working on a biography of Williams.
