Jeffrey A. TALPIS is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of Université de Montréal, specializing in private international law. He is also a notary, arbitrator, and mediator. His expertise spans family law, successions, matrimonial property, contracts, fiduciary law, and dispute avoidance strategies. He has published over 150 articles and books and has been cited in over 200 legal decisions across Canada.

Research Interests:
Professor Talpis’s work focuses on private international law, including cross-jurisdictional issues in family law, successions, and commercial disputes. He explores theoretical and practical aspects of international litigation strategies, contractual obligations across borders, and the legal frameworks governing sureties and fiduciary relationships. His research often addresses the pragmatic challenges of multi-jurisdictional conflicts and the coherence of international legal systems.
Advising and Teaching:
He has supervised three graduate theses, including studies on cross-border security rights in bankruptcy, international competence of Quebec courts in multi-jurisdictional class actions, and declaratory actions in international commercial disputes. Courses taught include Private International Law, Notarial Law, and Comparative Succession Law.
