Jeffery White is a Professor and BP Chair in Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University's School of Chemical Engineering within the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology. He maintains an active research program focused on heterogeneous catalysis and polymer science, with laboratory facilities in the Henry Bellmon Research Center (HBRC).
Dr. White received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 1992, where he was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Research Award, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at AT&T Bell Laboratories (1992-1993). Prior to joining Oklahoma State University in 2005, he served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at North Carolina State University (2000-2005) and worked as a Senior Research Scientist at ExxonMobil (1993-2000).
His research focuses on understanding structure and reactivity relationships in heterogeneous catalysis, particularly in zeolite systems, as well as the physical and chemical behavior of polymers and confined fluids. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy serves as a key methodology across his research portfolio, with applications ranging from solid-state NMR to diffusion NMR methodologies. His group investigates polymer blends, copolymers, and composites alongside fundamental reaction mechanisms in catalytic systems.
Analysis of Dr. White's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on water-zeolite interactions, acid site characterization in zeolite catalysts, and advanced NMR techniques for studying confined systems. His research demonstrates consistent focus on understanding fundamental mechanisms in heterogeneous catalysis while developing novel characterization methodologies.
Scientific Honors:
- Fulbright Research Scholar (2010-2011)
- DuPont Science and Engineering Award (2003)
- Park Faculty Scholar at NCSU (2005)
- Outstanding Doctoral Research Award from Texas A&M University (1992)
- Editorial Advisory Board for ACS Journal Macromolecules
Dr. White has successfully mentored numerous graduate students through completion of their Ph.D. degrees, with alumni securing positions in academia, industry, and research institutions. His research has been consistently supported by the National Science Foundation for over two decades, including a recent three-year collaborative grant awarded in 2022 totaling over $800,000. Additional funding comes from the National Research Council, ACS Petroleum Research Fund, US Department of Energy, and various industrial partners. His research group maintains state-of-the-art facilities including Bruker Ascend 400 MHz and 300 MHz Solid-State NMR instruments alongside specialized equipment for heterogeneous catalysis research.
