معرفی
Frank D. Blum is a Regents Professor of Chemistry and the Harrison I. Bartlett Chair at Oklahoma State University, serving as Chair of the Chemistry Department. He joined OSU in 2010 after holding permanent positions at Drexel University and the University of Missouri-Rolla, with visiting appointments at IBM and Lund University.
Education
- B.S. in Chemistry, Eastern Illinois University (1976)
- M.S. in Physical Chemistry, Eastern Illinois University (1977)
- Ph.D., University of Minnesota (1981)
Research Interests
Dr. Blum's research centers on materials science and surface chemistry with a focus on polymer behavior. His work investigates how physical properties of polymers change when adsorbed on solid substrates using NMR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. Current efforts develop nanorod-like conducting polymer nanocomposites embedded with metal nanoparticles for sensor and memory applications, bridging fundamental polymer science with electronic materials engineering.
Scientific Awards
- Two Exxon Education Foundation Awards
- Alcoa Foundation Award
- Eastern Illinois University Distinguished Alumni Award
- Fellow of the American Chemical Society
- Fellow of the Division of Polymer Chemistry, Inc.
- ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry Distinguished Service Award
- ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry Special Service Award
Professional Service and Grants
Dr. Blum secured research funding through Exxon and Alcoa foundation awards while maintaining extensive American Chemical Society leadership. He served 20+ years as ACS Councilor, chaired the Division of Polymer Chemistry (including Secretary and Chair roles), and led ACS Committees on Nominations and Elections and Divisional Activities.
Research Group
His laboratory at Oklahoma State University employs advanced spectroscopic and analytical techniques to study polymer-substrate interactions and develop next-generation nanocomposite materials for electronic applications.
