Dr. Jeff Offutt is Professor and Chair of Computer Science at the University at Albany's College of Nanotechnology, Science, & Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Information & Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and has over 37 years of academic experience.
Dr. Offutt's research focuses on software testing, test automation, and software engineering education. His work develops practical engineering solutions for building reliable software, with fundamental contributions to mutation testing, model-based testing, and automatic test data generation. His inventions are incorporated in widely-used commercial tools like Selenium and Certitude.
His publication portfolio shows strong emphasis on improving software testing methodologies (58%), advancing CS education (25%), and neuroimaging applications (17%). Recent works increasingly address educational innovations and testing optimizations through AI-driven approaches.

Dr. Offutt mentors graduate students through the Excellence in Computer Science Education and Learning (ExCSEL) lab and has supervised 18 PhD graduates. He developed the μJava mutation testing system used by researchers worldwide and authored the leading software testing textbook.
