Previously, he held roles as Lecturer (2007–2015) and Research Associate at the Scott Polar Research Institute (2003–2007). His career includes service as a Higher Scientific Officer at the British Antarctic Survey (1999–2003).
Evans specializes in glaciology and marine geosciences, focusing on Antarctic and Arctic environmental processes. His research uses advanced technologies like AUVs, ROVs, and UAVs to study submarine landforms, ice-sheet dynamics, and glacial retreat mechanisms. Notable projects include the Weddell Sea Expedition 2019 and investigations into Greenland continental shelf morphology.
- Research Interests: Glacial landform evolution, ice-ocean interactions, paleo-ice stream behavior, and climate change impacts on polar regions.
- Professional Roles: External examiner for the University of Cambridge’s M.Phil in Polar Sciences since 2015.
