Jeff Derksen is a Professor in the Department of English at Simon Fraser University (SFU), serving as Dean and Associate Provost (Pro Tem) of Graduate Studies. He holds a BA from the University of Victoria (David Thompson University Centre), and MA and PhD from the University of Calgary.
His research bridges cultural studies, urbanism, and contemporary art, focusing on globalization, neoliberalism, spatial politics, and intersections of art and activism. Key works include Annihilated Time: Poetry and Other Politics and After Euphoria, alongside essays in Material Cultures, Transnationalism, Activism, and Art, and Shifting the Ground of Canadian Literary Studies.
He co-founded the Urban Subjects research collective, exploring radical politics and autogestion in cities. He is an associate member of SFU’s Department of Geography and serves on editorial boards for Amodern (Montreal) and Canada and Beyond (Huelva, Spain). Awards include a 1999 Fulbright Fellowship for work at City University of New York and research fellowships at the Centre for Place, Culture and Politics (2001–2003).
Teaching focuses on Canadian literatures and media studies, with upcoming courses ENGL 213 D100 Reading Across Media and ENGL 355 E100 Canadian Literatures in Fall 2025. His interdisciplinary projects include collaborations with artists like Stan Douglas and contributions to exhibitions at the Venice Biennale (2015).
