Jeff Conroy-Krutz is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University (MSU), and a core faculty member in the African Studies Center. His research focuses on media and information dynamics, ethnicity, clientelism, electoral campaigns, and polarization in Africa, with an emphasis on experimental methods. He has conducted fieldwork in multiple African countries including Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda. His work addresses topics such as hate speech mitigation, democratic engagement, and the role of media in transitional democracies. His research has been published in top journals like African Affairs, British Journal of Political Science, and Journal of Politics, and supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, USAID, and the U.S. State Department.
Conroy-Krutz holds a PhD in Political Science from Columbia University. He has served as editor of the Afrobarometer Working Papers Series since 2018. His awards include the APSA Experimental Politics Section's Best Paper Award (2013) and the Kaid-Sanders Best Political Communication Article Award (2015). His work bridges academic scholarship with real-world policy, emphasizing how information dissemination and media landscapes shape political outcomes in Africa.
