Jed Odermatt

Dr. Jed Odermatt is an Associate Professor (Reader) at The City Law School, City St George's, University of London, where he is also a member of the International Law and Affairs Group (ILAG) and the Institute for the Study of European Law (ISEL). He holds a secondary affiliation as Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Groningen, Netherlands. His academic work bridges public international law, EU external relations law, and innovative legal education.

His research centers on public international law, international dispute settlement, and the evolving relationship between EU and international legal orders. He explores the role of international law in global governance and has authored the book International Law and the European Union (Cambridge University Press, 2021). A significant strand of his work examines legal education, focusing on sustainability, interdisciplinary teaching, and inclusive curriculum design. He leads the funded project Working Together for Change on sustainability education and contributes to The Law Teacher editorial board.

His recent publications reflect a strong trend toward analyzing the EU’s role in international law, judicial interactions between international and EU courts, and critical pedagogy in legal education. Themes of autonomy, legitimacy, and reform are recurrent across his scholarship.

He teaches and supervises in public international law and human rights, leading the interdisciplinary module Sustainability and Climate Change.
