Jeannie Miller is an Associate Professor at the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on Premodern Arabic Literature, Manuscript Studies, and the commentary and reception of Abbasid texts in Islamicate contexts.

Her work examines the transmission and interpretation of Abbasid texts like al-Jahiz's Kitab al-Hayawan, using manuscripts to explore premodern reading practices and editorial methodologies. She investigates intersections of science and literary form, rhetoric, and multilingual commentary traditions.
Recent publications include studies on Ottoman multilingualism, editorial practices in al-Jahiz's texts, and theoretical frameworks in Abbasid literature. She secured an SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2018–2021) for the Transmission History of al-Jahiz’s Book of Animals, leading to a revised stemma and text re-editing.
