Jeannette Wong-Powell

Dr. Jeannette Wong-Powell is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry, University of the Incarnate Word. A Mexico City native, she holds a Biology degree from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Doctorate of Optometry (OD) from the University of Houston. She completed a residency in ocular disease at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, specializing in glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy management.

Her clinical focus includes primary care, pediatrics, binocular vision, and surgical co-management. Dr. Wong-Powell is passionate about global health equity, leading optometric outreach in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula to address visual impairment among underserved populations. She advocates for interprofessional and international collaboration to expand eye care access.

Her work has been presented at the American Optometric Association meeting, Fulbright Regional Symposium, and UIW Research Week. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she emphasizes culturally competent care and mentors future optometrists through service-driven education.
