Jeanne Mainetti is an associate researcher at Nîmes University’s PROJEKT laboratory and Paul-Valéry University Montpellier’s LEIRIS laboratory. Her work bridges ecological, social, and technical domains through interdisciplinary research on digital technology, biomaterials, and collaborative practices. She teaches at Nîmes University in digital ecology, biomaterials, and design, focusing on themes like AI, materiality, and technological sovereignty. Her experimental projects include biomaterial cultivation (bacterial cellulose, mycelium) and bio-process research.
Previously, she defended her 2023 sociology thesis on hacker movement transformations at Paul-Valéry University. Her research explores institutionalization of FabLabs and transfeminist initiatives, supported by an Occitanie Region doctoral grant. She is active in Myxonautes, an interdisciplinary third-sector association merging biology, sociology, and computing. Key publications include analyses of distributed manufacturing spaces and biohackerspaces’ rhizomatic structures.
Professional affiliations include Bib Hackerspace, queer collective La Tenaille, and the French FabLab network’s scientific council. Her work emphasizes participatory methods and critical tech ethics, with presentations at conferences like ANR SAPS FabLab More (2024) and the International ‘Sensitive Metropolis’ symposium (2022).
