Jeanne M. Barcelona is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health within the College of Education at Wayne State University. Her academic responsibilities include research, teaching, and community engagement focused on health behavior and health education across the lifespan.

Dr. Barcelona's research centers on social determinants of health and their influence on physical, mental, and cognitive outcomes. Her expertise spans mixed methods, program planning and evaluation, health behavior theory, and cognitive assessment. She focuses on youth and aging adults, with substantive work in whole school, whole community, whole child models; policy, systems, and environmental change; and comprehensive school-based interventions.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in school-based health interventions, teacher efficacy in delivering physical activity, youth physical activity attitudes, and healthy aging programs. These works often involve collaborative, community-engaged research and emphasize the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based health programs in real-world settings.
