Honorary Professor Jeanine Young is an esteemed academic and researcher affiliated with the University of Queensland’s Centre for Online Health and Centre for Health Services Research. She also leads a targeted research program at the University of the Sunshine Coast that addresses Queensland’s elevated infant mortality. Her honorary professorship and extensive collaboration with national bodies such as SIDS and Kids underline her authority in infant and child health policy and practice.
Research Focus:
- Evidence-based infant care practices, breastfeeding promotion and safe infant sleeping interventions.
- Reduction of sudden unexpected deaths in infancy (SUDI), with particular attention to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Development and evaluation of public-health campaigns and educational resources for health professionals and parents.
- Health services research including nurse-led clinical protocols, workforce wellbeing in paediatric critical care, and telehealth applications.
Across 104 peer-reviewed journal articles, two book chapters and one sole-authored book (Developmental Care of the Premature Baby, 1996), Professor Young’s scholarship consistently bridges epidemiology, clinical practice and community engagement. Recent work explores nurse-led alcohol and drug withdrawal services, high-flow nasal cannula therapy for bronchiolitis and the psychosocial wellbeing of paediatric critical-care staff.

Doctoral Supervision & Mentoring:
Professor Young has supervised numerous Research Higher Degree (RHD) candidates at the University of Queensland and continues to mentor emerging scholars in maternal-infant health research.
Research Programs & Collaborations:
She established and directs a Queensland-based infant-mortality reduction initiative employing mixed-methods research to evaluate community-level interventions such as the Pepi-Pod® Program. Multi-agency partnerships with government, non-government and Indigenous community organisations underpin her translational research agenda.
