Jean-Willy Kunz is an internationally renowned organist and academic, currently serving as Organ Professor at the Conservatory of Music in Montréal. He was appointed Organist in Residence at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) in 2013, where he performs and promotes the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique. His career spans collaborations with conductors like Rafael Payare, Kent Nagano, and David Zinman, as well as solo performances with orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Les Violons du Roy.
- Education: Doctorate in Organ Performance from McGill University; MBA from HEC Montréal (2018).
Research & Artistic Interests: Kunz is celebrated for his versatility in diverse musical genres, from baroque to contemporary compositions. He pioneered innovative projects like the first Earth-Space organ duet with NASA and the European Space Agency during a 2017 recital at the Maison symphonique. His work also bridges classical and pop music, collaborating with artists such as Rufus and Martha Wainwright, and contributing to stage productions with Cirque du Soleil.
Discography & Recognition: His recordings, including the Juno Award-winning Symphonie et créations pour orgue et orchestre (2016), highlight his technical and creative range. As artistic director of the Canadian International Organ Competition and titular organist at St-Jean-Baptiste Church, Kunz continues to shape the global organ music landscape through performance, education, and interdisciplinary innovation.
