Professor Jean Roy is a tenured Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on clinical stem cell transplantation, particularly hematopoietic stem cells, with an emphasis on nutritional aspects. He leads the Chaire Maryse et William Brock pour la recherche appliquée en greffe de cellules souches and is affiliated with the CRHMR (Centre de recherche de l'Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont) and Chaire Myélome Canada for multiple myeloma research.
Research areas include allogeneic stem cell transplantation, expansion of cord blood stem cells using UM171, and biomarkers for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). Major grants include a 2015-2020 project on stem cell expansion (funded by Canadian Cancer Society), a 2018-2019 clinical trial using UM171-expanded cord blood for high-risk myeloma patients (Stem Cell Network), and a 2010-2013 initiative to study cGVHD biomarkers (FRQS).
He has supervised at least one Master's student (Jean-Sébastien Claveau, 2023) and collaborated on projects involving clinical applications of stem cell therapies. His work bridges translational medicine and clinical oncology, with a focus on improving outcomes for blood cancer patients.
