Jean-Nicolas Vauthey

Jean-Nicolas Vauthey, MD, FACS, serves as Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Section at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he holds the Dallas/Fort Worth Living Legend Chair for Cancer Research within the Department of Surgical Oncology, Division of Surgery.

His pioneering research focuses on improving outcomes in hepatobiliary malignancies through standardized liver remnant volume calculation methods, development of the International Cooperative Study Group for Hepatocellular Carcinoma, and creation of simplified cancer staging systems adopted by major international committees. He has revolutionized treatment for colorectal liver metastases through preoperative chemotherapy protocols, predictive genetic models identifying 6 mutated genes in 5 cancer pathways, and hybrid-room fast-track surgical-radiological procedures.
