Jean Nakamura

Jean Nakamura is a Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. She specializes in neuro-oncology, cancer biology, and radiation therapy, with a focus on brain metastases, meningiomas, and tumors related to neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Dr. Nakamura is actively involved in research related to the interactions between radiation therapy and cancer genomics as well as metabolic vulnerabilities in tumors.

Her research is supported by multiple grants from NIH, Department of Defense, and the John Templeton Foundation. She investigates radiation-induced malignancies, long-term treatment effects in childhood cancer survivors, and the role of ApoE4 in post-radiotherapy neurologic complications. Dr. Nakamura also serves as Director of Faculty Development for the Radiation Oncology Department and mentors diverse trainees through the NIH-funded SF BUILD program.

Dr. Nakamura's publications focus on brain tumor treatment, radiation biology, and molecular oncology. Her work shows particular emphasis on stereotactic radiosurgery, immunotherapy combinations, and genetic factors influencing treatment outcomes. Articles span diverse areas including medical physics, neurosurgery, and cancer metabolism with recurring themes in precision medicine and radiation-related carcinogenesis.

She actively participates in clinical trials and laboratory research through the Nakamura Lab, with affiliations to the DHART SPORE project and Acoustic4acure initiatives. Dr. Nakamura's work also addresses disparities in cancer care through her involvement in diversity-focused training programs.
