Professor Jayne Svenungsson holds a position in Systematic Theology at Lund University’s Centre for Theology and Religious Studies. She specializes in the intersection of theology, philosophy, and political thought, with a focus on apocalyptic imagery, messianism, and Jewish-Christian relations. Her current research leads the transdisciplinary program 'At the End of the World: A Transdisciplinary Approach to the Apocalyptic Imaginary in the Past and Present,' funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation.
Education includes a B.Th. and M.A. from Gothenburg University, a D.Th. from Lund University, and lecturer roles at Stockholm School of Theology. She has been a visiting scholar at Heidelberg, Paris, Oxford, and Munich universities.
Research interests span political messianism, theology of history, and aesthetics in early German Romanticism. Key grants include the Swedish Research Council and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond for projects on historical consciousness, law, and nationalism. Awards include the Per Beskows Pris (2014) and Karin Gierows Pris (2015). She is a member of prestigious academies like Det Norske Videnskaps-Akademi (2022).
