Jayne Lawrence is a Lecturer in Midwifery and Nursing at Charles Sturt University since 2019, previously serving as Lecturer in Rural Indigenous Health at Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health. Her work focuses on improving Indigenous healthcare access, rural nursing education, and student placement models. She holds a Master of Midwifery and Graduate Certificate in Midwifery from Charles Sturt University.
Her research interests include rural healthcare workforce challenges, culturally safe midwifery practices, and suicide prevention strategies in remote communities. Key themes involve enhancing First Nations women's birthing experiences, evaluating mental health programs, and improving educational support for Indigenous nursing students.
Recent publications emphasize scoping reviews on Indigenous maternal health, rural suicide prevention outcomes, and nursing workforce retention. Awards include the 2024 Ralph W. Tyler Award and WILNZ Research Excellence Award for work-integrated learning innovations. She actively participates in national conferences like ACEN Conference and collaborates on projects addressing Indigenous health equity.
Lawrence contributed to the Aged Care Royal Commission with a First Nations perspective and co-led datasets analyzing rural First Nations responses to the pandemic. She supervises honors students and maintains a registered midwife role with Western NSW Local Health District.
