Jaya Upadhyay is a Doctoral Researcher in the Spatial Interaction Ecology group at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig. She is based in the Department of Community Ecology, conducting field research on forest ecosystems in the Eastern Himalayas.
Her research interests include plant community ecology, ecosystem services assessment, high-altitude wetland management, and the integration of indigenous knowledge into conservation policy. She emphasizes the science-policy-practice interface to support sustainable natural resource management.
The two available publications highlight her work on avian and mammalian biodiversity in remote Himalayan regions, reflecting her focus on field-based ecological assessment and conservation. Her research trends involve biodiversity monitoring, community ecology, and human-environment interactions in fragile mountain ecosystems.
- Alexander von Humboldt International Climate Fellowship (2019–2020)
- UNEP/UNESCO/BMUB Fellowship for Diploma in Environment Management
Jaya has mentored master’s students and served as a guest tutor at CIPSEM, TU Dresden. She previously worked with WWF-India on community-based conservation and sustainable livelihoods. She has not received major research grants explicitly mentioned, but her fellowships support her research activities. She is part of a large collaborative research team at iDiv focused on species interactions, ecosystem dynamics, and global change ecology.
