Aletta Bonn

Aletta Bonn is Head of the Department of Biodiversity and People at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ and Professor of Ecosystem Services at the University of Jena, affiliated with the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig. Her work emphasizes collaboration with NGOs, conservation agencies, museums, and research institutions.

Her research focuses on biodiversity dynamics, ecosystem service valuation, urban ecological systems, public participation in conservation science, and nature-society interrelationships. She investigates how community engagement and citizen science initiatives can advance environmental stewardship.

From 2000-2012, she served as a research associate at the University of Sheffield, Peak District National Park, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in the UK. In 2023, she was appointed State Commissioner for Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning for Berlin, and joined the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) in 2024.
