Dr. Jay Vickers is a Lecturer at the University of Salford's School of Health & Society, a registered occupational therapist, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. They hold a Bachelor's in Contemporary Arts from Manchester Metropolitan University, a Bachelor's in Occupational Therapy, a PhD, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
Their research examines how social systems shape meaning-making and health behaviors through:
- Qualitative and intersectional methodologies (grounded theory, phenomenology, participatory action research)
- Health/education access disparities affecting LGBTQIA+ communities and youth
- Co-designed interventions for inequality reduction
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on marginalized populations using mixed methods, spanning healthcare engagement for gender-diverse individuals, complementary therapies in palliative care, arthritis rehabilitation, and educational alienation mechanisms.
