Jay Sykes is a Lecturer in Audio (AFHEA) at the University of Sunderland, where he has taught since 2015. Specializing in audio production, radio drama, and journalism, he leads modules such as RAD201 – Audio Stories and MAC358 – Radio Drama. His creative work includes producing programs for BBC Radio 4, including 'William's Castle' (Drama) and 'Vessels of Memory: Glass Ships of Sunderland' (Documentary). These projects explore themes like historical inquiry, cultural heritage, and community storytelling. Sykes also collaborates with the North East Photography Network on sound-based projects tied to historical events. His research focuses on experimental audio techniques, including mosaic documentary structures and tactile art integration. He is based in the David Puttnam Media Centre, Room 101b.
