Professor Shin's scholarly work centers on labor law violations within underground economies, particularly wage theft and worker misclassification in bankruptcy proceedings. His research examines how corporate shell structures evade labor obligations, connecting bankruptcy law with workers' rights enforcement. He advocates for systemic reforms to protect low-wage workers through equitable consolidation of corporate assets and aggressive lien enforcement, emphasizing practical solutions for exploited laborers in informal markets.
In his January Intersession course "Wage Theft: Underground Economy," he integrates real-world litigation experience from high-stakes bankruptcy cases involving trucking industry restructuring, providing students with actionable strategies for combating wage theft in complex corporate environments.
