Dr. Jay Paul Morgan is a Tutor in Computer Science at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Mathematics and Computer Science within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Swansea University, focusing on integrating domain expertise with deep neural networks across quantum chemistry, linguistics, and astrophysics. His postdoctoral research at the University of Toulon (CNRS-LIS Laboratory) involved enhancing solar imaging techniques in collaboration with the Paris-Meudon Observatory.
His research interests span Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning applications in interdisciplinary fields. He contributes to groups like STRONG (online grooming research) and SING (icons norm group), hosted in Psychology. He teaches the module CSCM04 Software Team Project, emphasizing practical software development in teams.
Recent publications highlight work on graph neural networks for star identification, vocal repertoire analysis of pilot whales, and cloud shadow removal in solar imagery. His research emphasizes domain-informed models, as seen in quantum chemistry case studies and behavioral analysis via search engine data.
Morgan collaborates with global institutions and is part of Swansea’s Computational Foundry. He actively participates in interdisciplinary initiatives like MASI (Morgan Advanced Studies Institute), addressing global challenges through transdisciplinary research.
