Dr. Jay Dorris III serves as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy, joining the faculty in 2023. His expertise bridges clinical pharmacy and health informatics, with a focus on optimizing electronic health record (EHR) systems to enhance medication safety and clinical decision-making.
He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy in 2014, followed by specialized residencies: a PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency. Prior to his current role, he worked as a Clinical Informatics Pharmacist at University of Florida Health, where he achieved Epic EHR certifications in Pharmacy, Oncology, and Analytics platforms.
Dr. Dorris's research centers on translating evidence-based medicine into EHR workflows, expanding precision medicine capabilities, developing AI-driven clinical decision support tools, and leveraging analytics for data-driven healthcare improvements. His work spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, emphasizing medication safety and quality improvement initiatives.
As an educator, he has precepted pharmacy students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows, demonstrating commitment to training the next generation of pharmacy informaticians through hands-on mentorship in real-world health system environments.
