Javiera Jaque Hidalgo serves as Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech's College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, based in 127 Major Williams Hall, Blacksburg, VA 24061.
Her research centers on frontier dynamics, religious structures, and indigenous migration patterns during colonial Latin America, with specialized focus on the Southern Cone region. She has co-edited critical editions of 16th-17th century colonial manuscripts from Chile, Peru, and the River Plate, and currently develops transregional scholarship on black and indigenous confraternities extending beyond Spanish territories to include Brazil.
Recent publications analyze border identity formation in colonial Chilean contexts and cross-regional confraternity networks, revealing intersections of cultural encounter, religious practice, and social organization across colonial Latin America.
