JavierGS

JavierGS is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department at California State University, San Luis Obispo. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Arizona State University (ASU), an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from CINVESTAV, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Universidad de Guadalajara. His research focuses on the intersection of software engineering and human-computer interaction, particularly in artificial emotional intelligence, affective computing, and emerging technologies like brain-computer interfaces, AR/VR, and physiological sensors. He has taught courses such as Applied Affective Computing, Software Engineering, and Compilers at multiple institutions, including ASU and Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Research Interests:
- Transdisciplinary integration of AI and HCI
- Affect-aware systems for education and healthcare
- Intelligent tutoring companions for programming education
- Human-Cobot Interaction and Extended Reality applications

Publications highlight contributions to affect-driven systems, VR rehabilitation, and IDE-integrated tutoring tools. He is a Senior Member of ACM and IEEE. His work includes collaborations with institutions like Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the Hearst Castle for cultural heritage projects. He has supervised over 20 graduate and undergraduate thesis students and received grants from RSCA and SURP programs.
