معرفی
Javier Matanza Domingo is an Assistant Professor at the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ICAI), Comillas Pontifical University, and a researcher at the Institute of Technological Research (IIT). He holds a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from Comillas (2013) and a degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (2008). Since 2013, he has been actively contributing to research and teaching in telecommunications, smart grids, and sensor systems.
His research interests focus on Power Line Communications (PLC), smart grids, signal processing, co-simulation, demand response, and communications for medical monitoring. He integrates machine learning techniques into sensor and communication systems, particularly for biomedical and energy applications. His recent work emphasizes digitalization in electricity distribution, cybersecurity in IoT and smart grids, and the development of low-cost, high-sensitivity sensors using microwave and metamaterial technologies.
The analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research, combining telecommunications, energy systems, and biomedical engineering. He frequently applies machine learning to enhance sensor performance and communication reliability. His work spans both theoretical modeling and practical implementation, often in the context of European and national smart grid projects.
His scientific contributions have been recognized with several awards, including:
- Honorary Distinction for the best Doctoral Thesis in Engineering (2015)
- Multiple awards as director of best Master’s and Final Year Projects (2016–2022)
- 1st Cross4Health Hackathon Award (2019)
He advises PhD students such as M. Monteagudo Honrubia, N. Rodríguez Pérez, and M. Gholami Mayani. He leads and participates in numerous research grants, including Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects like eFORT, BeFlex, BIO-FlexGen, OneNet, and RESPONSE, focusing on grid resilience, flexibility, and digitalization. He has also collaborated with institutions like Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and University of Kent.
He is involved in research labs and teams centered around smart grid technologies, sensor development, and biomedical instrumentation at IIT. His work on PLC simulation tools, co-simulation platforms, and secure IoT systems highlights his leadership in building practical, scalable technological solutions.
