University of Oklahomaمعرفی
Javier A. Jo serves as the Ted and Cuba Webb Presidential Professor and Director of the NIH-P20 COBRE Oklahoma Center of Medical Imaging for Translational Cancer Research at the University of Oklahoma's Gallogly College of Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he joined the faculty in 2019 after establishing his career in biomedical imaging.
Education
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru, 1996
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Signal and Image Processing), University of Southern California, 2000
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (Physiological Modeling), University of Southern California, 2002
Research Focus
Dr. Jo pioneers integrated optical sensing and imaging technologies that bridge instrumentation development and computational science to address unmet needs in disease mechanism studies and clinical management. His work emphasizes nondestructive, minimally invasive morphological, molecular, and physiological characterization of biological tissues across spatial and temporal scales, with strong applications in cancer research and medical diagnostics.
Funding and Service
He has secured over $8 million in research funding as PI/Co-PI from NIH, AHA, CPRIT, and QNRF. Dr. Jo serves as Topical Editor for OSA Optics Letters and NIH CTIS Study Section member, while teaching graduate/undergraduate courses in biomedical instrumentation, signal/image processing, and statistics.
Research Infrastructure
He founded the Laboratory for Optical Diagnosis and Imaging (LODI) at Texas A&M University and continues this work at OU, focusing on translational medical imaging technologies for cancer research.
