Javed Ali is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University's Center for Security Studies (CSS) and concurrently an Associate Professor of Practice at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He specializes in national security, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism policy. Ali holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan, a JD from the University of Detroit School of Law, and an MA in International Relations from American University.
His professional experience includes over 20 years in national security roles, including positions at the Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. At the FBI, he held senior roles at the National Intelligence Council, National Counterterrorism Center, and the National Security Council under the Trump Administration. He is a frequent commentator on national security issues for major media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Newsweek.
Ali’s research interests intersect national security law, intelligence policy, and homeland security strategies. His expertise spans counterterrorism mechanisms, cybersecurity governance, and the legal frameworks guiding intelligence operations.
