- BSc in Economics, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
His research centers on Macroeconomics and International Economics, with a focus on economic growth, financial globalization, sovereign debt, and asset bubbles. He investigates how global capital flows, risk-sharing mechanisms, and monetary policy interact in open economies, particularly during bubbly episodes and crises.
The 15 most recent articles reflect a sustained intellectual trajectory on macroeconomic dynamics driven by financial frictions and asset bubbles. His work combines theoretical modeling with empirical insights, often analyzing the interplay between globalization, credit cycles, and institutional structures. A recurring theme is how bubbles can substitute for capital markets in promoting growth and risk-sharing, especially in developing or financially constrained economies.
Professor Ventura has received numerous accolades, including:
- Fellow of the Econometric Society
- Fellow of the European Economic Association
- ERC Advanced Grant (awarded twice)
- Research Associate, NBER
- Research Fellow, CEPR
- Co-Director, CEPR International Macroeconomics Program (2004–2011)
- Editor, Economic Journal
- Associate Editor, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Journal of the European Economic Association
He has advised numerous economists, including Alberto Martin, Fernando Broner, and Vasco Carvalho, with whom he has co-authored extensively. His research has been supported by major grants from the European Research Council. He has also worked full-time at the World Bank and consulted for the Inter-American Development Bank, demonstrating strong policy engagement.
Jaume Ventura leads a vibrant research group at CREI, where he mentors PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. His team focuses on the macroeconomic implications of financial globalization and asset market imperfections, contributing significantly to the understanding of current account dynamics, sovereign risk, and economic integration.
