Dr. Jasper Chalcraft is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, affiliated with the CulturalBase research initiative. He is actively engaged in critical heritage studies, with a focus on transnational perspectives, minoritarian identities, and socially transformative uses of heritage.
His research interests include community-based heritage, intangible cultural heritage, post-colonial heritage, and the role of heritage in social change. He explores how marginalized communities engage with heritage to assert identity and belonging, particularly in contexts of mobility and political transformation.
Dr. Chalcraft has contributed to academic discourse through conference participation, including the 2016 ACHS Biennial Conference, where he presented on making heritage minoritarian as a means of constructing a socially useful past. His work intersects with themes of global versus local heritage governance, rights-based approaches, and decolonizing heritage practices.
